Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau says that from November 17, 2023 to October 20, 2024, drugs and alcohol amounting to over MVR 328 million was confiscated by Maldives Police Service. In the same period, 335 cases had been investigated and sent for prosecution. He made the statement in a press conference held in President's Office on Tuesday.

State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) has placed a voltage stabilizing system in Thindhoo island in Vaavu Atoll. The island is home to a thriving guesthouse business, with the demand on electricity surging in the past few months. STELCO says that this system would address the voltage drop issues in the island

Government and the World Bank has concluded grant negotiations for additional funding for the Maldives Atoll Education Development Project (AEDP) implemented by the Ministry of Education. The Global Partnership for Education will be providing a Grant of US$2.775 million administered by the International Development Association (IDA). The eco-tourism project in Baarah has been opened for international bidding. This is in alignment with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to actualise Baarah Island's eco-tourism aspirations. Under this project, at least 75 beds are to be developed in a 71,000 square feet area.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that amendments to the Tobacco Control Act will be presented in Parliament on Tuesday. Alongside banning the importation and use of vaping devices in the country, the Government plans to raise the legal age for trading tobacco and tobacco products to 21, to deter young people from picking up the harmful habit. Amendments will propose stringent enforcement measures to address violations of the Tobacco Control Act as well.
