First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed expressed her commitment to leveraging her role as the Maldives’ First Lady to address rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the Maldives. She made these remarks during her intervention at the Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative (MFFLI) Committee Meeting on Wednesday, held as part of the 11th Edition of the Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary Annual Conference

Commending the Merck Foundation’s ‘More than a Mother’ campaign for its success in addressing infertility stigma globally, the First Lady noted that infertility remains a sensitive topic in the Maldives, with women shouldering much of the societal burden.

She highlighted the current Administration’s initiative to make Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), such as IVF, more accessible by offering these treatments under the Aasandha public health insurance scheme.

First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed emphasises the importance of global collaboration in advancing healthcare, women’s empowerment, and education. She highlights the significant strides the Maldives has achieved in healthcare and equity initiatives.

In her keynote address as the Guest of Honour at the High-Level First Ladies Panel, held at the 11th Edition of the Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary Annual Conference, she highlighted other vital issues, including cancer prevention and treatment initiatives, promoting education, and ensuring equal opportunities.

Currently, on an official visit to Tanzania, First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed commended the Merck Foundation’s ‘More than a Mother’ campaign for its success in addressing infertility stigma globally.

The First Lady expressed her desire to introduce the ‘More than a Mother’ campaign to the Maldives, which will aid in shifting the societal perceptions on infertility and support affected individuals.

Symposium on Strategic Plan Formulation aims to draft a five-year strategic plan for Maldives Customs. Superintendent of Customs Service Minna Rasheed has affirmed to PSM News that the discussions held within the symposium will be considered when drafting the strategic plan.
