On World Tuna Day, the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable tuna management and responsible fishing practices. Efforts continue to promote one-by-one fishing, enforce science-based decisions, protect juvenile stocks, and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing to ensure long-term resource sustainability. Tuna fisheries remain central to the Maldives’ blue economy, food security, and livelihoods, with certification from the Marine Stewardship Council and recognition by Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch.
