Ministries, Government agencies mark the National Unity Day

Ministries, Government agencies and bodies mark the National Unity Day. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which affected all inhabited islands except for nine. The tsunami claimed 82 lives, left 26 people missing, and displaced 15,000 in the Maldives. The Maldives celebrates National Unity Day on December 26 annually, in remembrance of the strong spirit of national unity and solidarity shown by the people in the immediate aftermath of the devastating tsunami in 2004.
